About this place...
So you might be wondering what this place is all about? And you're right! The Midnight has been around for a few years already. Its code allows it to be visited from both Web and Gemini. It also allows patrons to have their own pages. While it offers many things, the pub's code is relatively big for what it is. This is an experiment to make the pub much more portable, allowing anyone to create and host their own simple pubs. There are less features, and part of this is to see if it's a problem or not! If we decide that we like where this is going, then the Midnight and this place will be merged.
But for now, glad to know you found the place, and enjoy this brand new place!
I'm all for experimenting, and I understand the dangers of feature creep all too well.
For my part, I'd say that I hope the Midnight won't be replaced. I think it's a great balance between simplicity and functionality, especially in how it allows us all a little bit of web space too. It's like a simpler version of a tildeverse server, and is perfect for my needs.
If I could help any with maintenance or whatever, please let me know. But I certainly understand that you don't know me from Adam, so I don't expect the keys to the kingdom or anything :)
As for as looking for something simpler, have you thought about setting up a Mastadon instance? It'd be pretty similar to this-here place, potentially, and to my understanding there's a good amount of customization that can happen in terms of how much a given instance actually connected to the wider Fediverse. (If nothing else, the underlying protocol can be used to do its own thing.) Another thing that could be fun would be good ol' fashioned IRC. That said, I can understand that you may not be looking to create or manage that kind of network.
Anyway, I would definitely like to pitch in however I can, both because it'd be fun and as a way of giving back.
Thank you so much for your kind words and feedback, zampano!

Really happy to read that as well! I love the idea of the Midnight being a little tildeverse/pubnix but with a web frontend. I wonder if internally, the parts that power the message board and the pages could be separated. That way, we'd keep all the functions.
The big question mark I have is around Gemini. This new version isn't connected to Gemini at all.
Hey ~m15o, first I want to say thanks for all the things you've created, those are so cool... I'm liking Speakeasy BTW!
On supporting Gemini, well, I have reduced it's usage since the last year, which is sad as I like the protocol, and things like Station for micro-posting.
Having the option like on midnight.pub or smol.pub to visualize any content on your preferred protocol is nice and unique, you reach to different people with a simple post.
Buuut, I agree with ~zampano, feature creep is a pain. And almost everyone can turn on an HTTP client, so... \_(?)_/

That could certainly make sense, especially depending on how (and whether) the personal pages are also accessible via Gemini.
The more I think of it, the more I think I'll just leave Midnight as it is. But keep the speakeasy as well. The thread (and bump) approach here is different than that of Midnight, where posts are chronologically displayed. Now if I could simplify sending over "keys" on Midnight, it'd be perfect. :P Will think of something!
